Our Story

Generations of Exceptional
Craftsmanship

At the heart of our family-run business lies a passion for maritime craftsmanship and innovation. Over the years, we’ve embarked on extraordinary projects that have defined us as leaders in ship reconstruction and refurbishment.

1942-1943 Harmony

The PedShip legacy began in 1942 with Harmony, the first yacht constructed by Neville Pedley — a visionary shipbuilder and student of the renowned mathematician Spooner. Alongside three fellow students, Neville designed, engineered, and built a racing yacht that would later be celebrated for its “perfect” hull. This pioneering design set a new standard in yacht construction, with 22 of its specifications now widely adopted in modern vessels.

Harmony was more than a racing yacht — it was the foundation of a tradition rooted in innovation, precision, and a deep love for the sea.

2001–2006: Harmony II

The modern era began with Harmony II, an aging ferry transformed over five years into a state-of-the-art transatlantic vessel. The project required intense focus and craftsmanship — including the welding of over 12,000 rivets to ensure strength and integrity.

Each of the ship’s 12 cabins was individually designed using bespoke materials, showcasing both versatility and attention to detail. Harmony II emerged as a benchmark of refinement and dependability.

2016–2019: Fingal

Over 2.5 years, Fingal — a former Northern Lighthouse Board vessel — was restored and reimagined as a luxury floating hotel. The project balanced preservation with reinvention, carefully retaining the character of the original ship while introducing modern design and amenities.

Now berthed in Leith, Fingal operates as a 5-star hotel and forms part of the Royal Yacht Britannia experience — a unique blend of history and contemporary hospitality.

2019–2022: Ocean Mist

Originally built in 1919, Ocean Mist had sat abandoned for seven years before restoration began. The vessel was in extreme disrepair, with a hull worn down to 3mm and over 2,000 rats onboard.

Across 3.5 years, the ship was brought back from the brink through extensive structural and aesthetic restoration. Now docked in Leith, Ocean Mist stands as one of Scotland’s top-rated hotels on TripAdvisor — a striking transformation from derelict to destination.

In Progress: Anahita V

The ongoing restoration of Anahita V represents our most demanding and rewarding undertaking to date. A historic Feadship — the seventh ever made and the oldest still physically remaining — Anahita V has been fully deconstructed into 16 sections as part of a comprehensive rebuild.

Managed entirely in-house, the project is being carried out with deep respect for the vessel’s original form. Wherever possible, original materials are being reused, with the aim of crafting a yacht that preserves the soul of the past while embracing the promise of the future.

In Progress: Project MM26

Still in progress and largely under wraps, MM26 marks a defining moment for PedShip. It is the largest vessel we have ever designed, and the first to be constructed entirely from the ground up.

Unlike our heritage restorations, MM26 is a clean-sheet build — a convergence of advanced naval engineering and timeless maritime elegance.

Following an intensive multi-year design phase. While many elements remain confidential, MM26 is set to be:

  • A full-scale, from-scratch marine construction

  • Engineered with custom systems and structural solutions

  • A bold evolution in PedShip’s design and technical capacity

  • Worldly in purpose and presence — designed to become an iconic landmark wherever she is moored

MM26 is more than a vessel. It's a statement — of ambition, of craft, and of global vision.

More will be revealed in time. For now, MM26 signals a new chapter for PedShip — one that reaches far beyond restoration and into legacy-making.
